Rationale
For over 13 years, the Asian Food Study Conference has gathered hundreds of people with interests, expertise and experiences on food studies. That we agreed to strengthen our goal even further by announcing the first Congress of the Society of Asian Food Studies (counting as the 14th Asian Food Study Conference). The aim is to bring food scholars around ASIA together and collaborate in future.
This year, we kindly announce the main theme, “Plant-based Diet”. Plant-based diet is considered as a food lifestyle that encourages whole, plant-based foods while reduces consumption of animal-based ingredients as well as refined and processed foods. In the past decade, where there has been more research on the health benefits of reducing meat in daily food, plant-based diets have become increasingly popular. Meanwhile, the trend in Climate Change has strongly promoted the conservation side of eating plant-based food rather than carnivores. Thus, we would like to invite food scholars around Asia to share their ideas, traditions, current research and interest in the topic:
Food ethics, animal welfare and practice.
Ecosystem and food chain.
Intensive agriculture and natural farming.
Plant-based foods and drinks processing.
eating patterns from vegan to flexitarian.
Health and regimen.
Science and nutrition.
Ritual and cultural practices.
Tea and Zen.
Sustainable Development and Climate Change concern.
Objective
To share new research on "Plant-based Diet" and the other topics about food studies in Asia
To provide opportunities for academic researchers who are interested in food in any dimension to meet and build a network for further research.
